Privacy Policy
OpenJurist is a free legal-research portal. We collect as little personal information as possible — you can read the entire site without an account. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Usage analytics (Google Analytics 4). We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are used and how the site performs — pages viewed, approximate location (derived from a truncated/anonymized IP address, typically to the country or region level), and general device and browser type. GA4 does not give us your full IP address and we do not use it to identify you personally or for advertising.
- First-party page-view counts. We keep a simple per-URL visit counter so we know which content is useful. It records the page and a timestamp — no personal profile.
- Server logs. Like virtually every website, our servers record standard request information (IP address, time, URL requested, and user-agent) to keep the site secure, diagnose errors, and prevent abuse. These logs are retained only as long as needed for those purposes.
- Account information — only if you sign in. Sign-in is available to administrators only at launch. If you sign in, we receive the email address from your chosen identity provider so we can recognize your account. If you never sign in, none of this applies to you.
Cookies
Our deliberate, minimal use of cookies and local storage is itemized in our Terms of Use. In addition to those functional cookies, Google Analytics sets its own analytics cookies (such as _ga) to measure visits. None of our cookies are used for advertising or cross-site advertising tracking.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We rely on a small number of service providers to run the site:
- Google Analytics — usage measurement (see above).
- Cloudflare — content delivery, performance, and protection against attacks. Cloudflare processes requests on our behalf to serve the site quickly and securely.
Your choices
If you are in the European Union, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, we ask for your consent before loading Google Analytics, and it stays off unless you accept. You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie preferences link in the footer.
Everywhere, you can opt out of Google Analytics with Google's official browser opt-out add-on, and you can block or clear cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking analytics cookies does not affect your ability to read the site.
Children
OpenJurist is a legal-research resource intended for a general adult audience. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
OpenJurist is an active rebuild. We may update this policy as the site evolves; the "last reviewed" date below always reflects the current version.
